Retail in the Right Place

Starting out as a run-down industrial site off Highway 14 just east of Interstate 5, this 195,000 square-foot development is now a thriving retail center and a major contributor to the growth of downtown Vancouver, Washington.

Before breaking ground on the project, we had the challenge of navigating a complex rezoning process, opening the 14.5-acre site up for retail use. Diligence and patience paid off and in 2008 we unveiled this high-quality, multi-building retail center anchored by a full-service Fred Meyer grocery store and complemented by a variety of other carefully selected retail amenities.

It’s the Little Things

Grand Central was a success because a great deal of thought was put into every last detail. We sourced high-quality brick, concrete, and steel accents as a nod to the site’s industrial past. We used pervious pavers and permeable concrete to reduce runoff and help manage stormwater on-site, ultimately contributing to the long-term health of our beautiful Columbia River. We created a village-like atmosphere that incorporates pedestrian paths, welcoming plazas, outdoor seating, and a collection of original sculptures so people are encouraged to gather.
